This morning we start our tour with a stunning example of Gothic architecture that took two centuries and armies of medieval workers to complete – The Notre Dame Cathedral. After celebrating Mass at a local church, we visit Sainte-Chapelle “Holy Chapel”, and its stained-glass, that is considered the best of their type in the world. Later in the afternoon, we visit the Champs Elysees and the Eiffel Tower. Overnight: Paris (B, D)
After breakfast we depart to Lourdes, birthplace of Bernadette. Once we arrive, we check in at our hotel. After dinner we all join the Candlelight Procession. Overnight: Lourdes (B, D)
This day we start with mass at the Grotto of Massabielle, where our Lady appeared to Bernadette in 1858. Later we take our official group photo in front of the Basilica, followed by our guided tour of Lourdes: The sanctuary of the Basilica of St. Pius X, the world’s largest underground church. The Basilica, The Baths, where thousands of miraculous cures have taken place is the most respected shrine and sanctuary in France. Also to be visited are sites associated with the life of Saint Bernadette, like the Boly Mill – where she was born; the Locale Mill – residence of her parents; the Cachot – formerly used as a jail where she lived at the time of the Apparitions; the Chapel – where she received her first Holy Communion; and the Parish Church – containing the baptismal font where she was baptized. In the afternoon our group will join the Blessed Sacrament Procession and Blessing of the sick, (if available on that day). Overnight: Lourdes (B, D)
Depart Lourdes and drive over the Pyrenees to Andorra la Vella and view Romanesque churches and stone houses in the city’s quarter along with a visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Meritxell. Continue on to Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia and explore the colorful markets of Las Ramblas before transferring to our hotel. Overnight: Barcelona (B, D)
After breakfast we will enjoy a panoramic tour of Barcelona including panoramic views of the harbor area, Montjuic, Plaza de Espana and Plaza de Catalunya. We will then visit Barcelona Cathedral followed by a visit to Gaudi’s La Sagrada Familia, a magnificent, unfinished Roman Catholic basilica of impressive proportions. We will continue on to the Tibidabo Hill where we will visit the Church of the Sacred Heart and see a statue of Christ whose extended arms overlooking Barcelona reminds one of Rio de Janeiro. Overnight: Barcelona (B, D)
This morning we will travel outside of Barcelona to visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montserrat, the spiritual heart of Catalonia and home to a dramatically set Benedictine monastery. For 700 years this Marian shrine has attracted thousands of pilgrims from around the world. We pause here to visit the Black Madonna of Montserrat, probably Spain’s most fervent devotion to the Blessed Mother. Return to Barcelona with the remainder of the afternoon free. Overnight: Barcelona (B, D)
Barcelona / Zaragoza / Toledo
This morning we leave Barcelona and head to Toledo. On our way we drive through Zaragoza where we will visit the Basilica of our lady of Pilar. Time for lunch before we continue to our hotel in Toledo for dinner and overnight. Overnight: Toledo (B, D)
After breakfast, we spend the day in Toledo which sits on a rocky mound isolated on three sides by a looping gorge of the Río Tajo. Every available inch of this outcrop has churches, synagogues, mosques and houses heaped upon one another in a haphazard spiral, which the cobbled lanes infiltrate as best they can. Toledo is known as the City of the Three Religions or Cultures because for many centuries the Christians, the Moors, and the Jews lived together in relative equality and peace. The city surrounded by walls hides great treasures: its awesome Cathedral, the church of Santo Tomé, the Tránsito Synagogue, Santa María La Blanca Synagogue, the superb church of San Juan de los Reyes, Puerta de Bisagras, Puerta del Cambrón, Puerta del Sol, etc. We continue to the hotel for dinner and overnight. Overnight: Toledo (B, D)
Today we depart to Fatima. Arrive Fatima, where Our Blessed Mother visited three shepherd children, Lucia Santos and her cousins Bl. Jacinta & Bl. Francisco Marto in 1917, with a message of great hope for the world, in time for the Rosary and Candlelight Procession. Overnight: Fatima (B, D)
We begin our tour today admiring the Discoveries Monument and Belem Tower from the outside. Head to Baixa (downtown), walk from Comercio Square through Rua Augustato Rossio Square before heading to Alfama. Overnight: Lisbon (B, D)
