Pilgrimage Overview

Join us on a Pilgrimage to Rome, Assisi, & Venice in the Jubilee Year with Fr. Abel and Fr. Jack!

DAY 1
Depart USA

Today we board our overnight flights to Rome with meals served onboard.

DAY 2
Arrive Rome

Upon arrival we are greeted by our Holy Land Travel Center Representative who will accompany us throughout our tour. We will visit the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls, one of the four major Basilicas in Rome, where we will walk through our first Jubilee Door, celebrate Mass, and visit the tomb of St. Paul. Then we will transfer to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3
Rome

After breakfast, the group will attend one of the highlights of the trip, the Papal Audience. In the afternoon we visit the Basilica of St. John Lateran, the oldest Basilica of the Western World, where we will enter through the second Jubilee Door of our pilgrimage. We then visit the Scala Santa (Holy Stairs), believed to be those climbed by Jesus that led to the praetorium of Pontius Pilate in Jerusalem.  It is customary to climb the stairs on your knees (if you are able) praying on each step.  We return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 4
Rome

This morning we go to the Basilica of St. Mary Major, one of the oldest and most important shrines in the world dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, where we will pass through the third Jubilee Door of our pilgrimage. We then drive to the area of the Trevi Fountain with time to enjoy lunch before we walk to the Spanish Steps, returning to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 5
Rome

Today we tour St. Peter’s Basilica, built on the site where St. Peter the Apostle was martyred. Here, we will pass through the fourth and final Jubilee Door of our pilgrimage.  We will have the opportunity to pray at the tomb of Pope St. John Paul II and view Michelangelo’s Pieta sculpture. The afternoon is free time to enjoy as you wish.  (You can explore other sights of Rome at your own cost like Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel; the Colosseum, enjoy a long lunch, shop, etc.)  Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 6
Assisi

We depart Rome and drive to Assisi stopping along the way for lunch.  Upon arriving in Assisi, it is fitting that we first visit Chiesa Nuova Church, the presumed birthplace of St. Francis of Assisi. It was built in 1615 on the site of the house of Pietro di Bernardone (Francis’ Father).  We take time to enjoy free time in Assisi before we proceed to hotel for dinner and overnight.

DAY 7
Assisi

We will visit the Basilica of St. Francis, the upper Basilica with Giotto’s frescoes representing the life of St. Francis, then the lower Basilica and the Tomb of St. Francis. We then proceed to the Basilica of St. Clare for a tour. Then to Sntuario Della Sogliazinoe to visit Blessed Carlo Acutis’ tomb.  After lunch, we will transfer to the Convent of San Damiano, where St. Francis received his call to rebuild the Church and where St. Clare lived and died. Here we celebrate Mass before returning to Assisi.

DAY 8
Padua

After breakfast, we visit the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli (St. Mary of the Angels) where we celebrate Mass.  This Basilica contains the Porziuncola built by St. Francis and his followers. This tiny church rests inside the larger Basilica.   Then we proceed to the Franciscan Sanctuary, also known as the Church of Santa Maria.  This is where St. Francis of Assisi started his life of austerity in a stone hovel and where he lived from 1209 to 1211.  We will drive to Padua for overnight and dinner.

DAY 9
Venice

After Breakfast, we visit the Basilica of St. Anthony of Padua where we will pray at his tomb, contemplate his life and visit the Chapel where his relics reside.  We continue to the Sanctuary of San Leopoldo Mandic to pray at his tomb and ask for his intercession.  We will celebrate Mass in Padua before we take a short drive to Venice. Upon arrival we will have time to explore Vencie before checking into our hotel.

DAY 10
Venice

After Breakfast, we begin with a guided walking tour of St. Mark’s Square, one of the largest open spaces in Venice. We visit two of its landmark buildings, the Basilica of San Marco where we will celebrate Mass and the Bridge of Sighs. After attending a glass blowing demonstration, we enjoy a free afternoon to explore on our own, sightseeing, shopping, taking a gondola ride or resting in the room before our flights tomorrow.  Take advantage of the many wonderful restaurants and enjoy dinner on your own this evening.  Return to hotel for overnight.

DAY 11
