Pilgrimage Overview

Join Fr. Wayne Dawson on a Camino Pilgrimage to Fatima & Spain!

Depart USA

Today we board our flights to Lisbon with meals and beverages served aloft. Anticipate your arrival tomorrow morning.

We arrive at Lisbon Airport where we are met by our Holy Land Travel Center Representative and transfer to our hotel in Fatima for overnight. If time permits, we will join the candlelight processional.

Today, our morning is devoted to visiting the Basilica and Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima and the birthplaces of Francisco, Jacinta and Lucia to whom the Virgin appeared for the first time on May 13, 1917.  Dinner and overnight at our hotel.  In the evening we join the Rosary and candlelight procession.

This morning we drive to Porto. Upon arrival in Porta, you’ll visit some of Porto’s most iconic sites, including the Sao Francisco Church and The Clerigos Church with its famous bell tower. You’ll also get a chance to take in panoramic views of the Dom Luís Bridge, Church of Saint Ildefonso, and the Maria Pia Bridge. We then continue to Tui for our overnight.

After breakfast, you’ll be transported to Braga, one of the oldest and liveliest cities in Portugal. There, you’ll visit the Shrine of Bom Jesus do Monte to celebrate Mass and walk the Sacred Way. Here, we will walk the Stations of the Cross. Then, you’ll journey to the Galician town of Tui, where you’ll spend the night.

Today marks the official start of your walking pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. After breakfast, you’ll begin your journey across peaceful hamlets, tranquil woods, and farmland. As you walk, you’ll connect with Our Lord and the spirit of St. James the Apostle. The day will end in O Porrino, where you’ll have dinner and spend the night.

O Porriño

Today, you’ll continue on your journey from O Porrino through the woods to Rendoncela, known for its famous railway viaducts. After a long day of walking, you’ll enjoy a restful night’s sleep.

Following breakfast, you’ll journey from Redondela to the historic and culturally rich town of Pontevedra. You’ll visit the “Capela da Virxe Peregrina” and explore the town’s well-preserved medieval center. As you walk, you’ll feel the joy and excitement of the pilgrims around you. After dinner, you’ll rest up for another day of walking.

After breakfast, you’ll continue your journey to Caldas de Reis. You’ll pass through several villages, each with their own unique charm and beauty. Caldas de Reis is known for its hot springs and beautiful location at the confluence of the Bermaña and Umia rivers. After dinner, you’ll rest up for another day of walking.

DAY 10
Caldas de Reis

We wake up in Caldas de Reis and enjoy a delicious breakfast before embarking on a walk of 11.8 miles (19km) that passes through San Miguel de Valga, Cimadevila, Fontelo, and the river Ulla. The church of Santiago de Padron is a significant stop for pilgrims, where you can find the Pedrón, a granite block that was tied to the boat that carried apostle St James. The day will conclude in Padron, where Saint James Santiago first preached the word of the Lord. You will have a delightful dinner and a comfortable overnight stay in Padron.

DAY 11

Continue your walking pilgrimage, covering 15.5 miles (25km) in the same direction as the previous day. Your route will take you past the church of Santiago towards the Colegiata of Iria Flavia, where Nobel Literature Prize Camilo José Cela is buried. You will walk on paths and main roads through villages and woodlands until you reach O Milladoiro, where you will see the spires of the Cathedral, indicating your approach to Santiago. After lunch, you will complete your walking journey and arrive at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Following check-in to your hotel, you will have free time to explore the city. In the evening, enjoy a marvelous dinner and a restful overnight stay in Santiago de Compostela.

DAY 12
Santiago de Compostela

Breakfast at your hotel before exploring the beautiful city of Santiago de Compostela. The Cathedral, made of Galician granite, is one of the finest architectural examples in Europe, with a mix of Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque styles. Inside, the Cathedral contains numerous valuable pieces of art that truly captivate the eye. You will hug the dazzling statue of St. James upon entering the Cathedral, followed by a descent into the crypt where the Patron Saint of Pilgrims’ relics are kept. Following your visit, enjoy free time for lunch before your sightseeing tour of the city. Some stops on your tour include the Obradoiro Square, Fonseca Palace, Gelmirez Palace, Franco Street, and much more. Your evening will be free to spend at your leisure until a final dinner with your group, followed by a final overnight stay in Santiago de Compostela.
