Itinerary
DAY 1
Depart USA
Our Pilgrimage begins today as we depart on our flight to Milan. Meals and drinks served aloft.
DAY 2
Turin
Upon arrival in Milan we are welcomed by our HLTC Guide and Driver. We will then make the short journey to Turin where we will enjoy a brief panoramic city tour before arriving at our hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 3
Turin
We begin the day with a visit to Valdocco, a neighborhood of Turin that’s well known for a complex of buildings related to Don Bosco. The first of these is the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians, the final resting place of our Salesian Saints, where we will celebrate a special Mass to mark the eve of the Feast of Mary Help of Christians. Following Mass, we will disperse for lunch before continuing our exploration of Valdocco with visits to the Casa Don Bosco Museum, the Church of San Francesco di Sales and the Pinardi Chapel. Our discoveries culminate at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist where the Holy Shroud is housed along with the tomb of the Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati. We will then enjoy an early dinner at a local restaurant before returning to our hotel. For those who wish to participate, the First Vespers will begin around 7pm and a Vigil will be held from 10pm to Midnight.
DAY 4
Turin
Today we celebrate the Salesian Feast of Mary Help of Christians alongside thousands of our fellow faithful! After a leisurely breakfast, we will take a few hours to cover any of the sites we missed on our busy schedule from the day before. Plan for an early dinner in advance of an evening Mass followed by a grand procession through the streets of Turin! Late in the evening, we will return to our hotel to rest.
DAY 5
Mornese
Today we bid farewell to Turin and set out for Mornese. Along the route to Mornese, we’ll have the chance to visit the home of St. Dominic Savio. We then proceed to Colle Don Bosco where we’ll explore the birthplace of St. John Bosco along with the many magnificent structures that have been built to commemorate his life, work, and faith. We then head to Mornese, an idyllic village in the Italian countryside and birthplace of St. Mary Mazzarello and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. Here, we’re treated to a comprehensive tour of the village under the direction of the Salesian Sisters who call it home. Afterwards, we will retire to one of the local facilities run by the Salesian Sisters for a delicious dinner and a deserved rest.
DAY 6
Florence
We greet the day with a smile as we bid farewell to Mornese as we depart for Florence. Along the way we will take in the beautiful Italian coastline as we look out across the Ligurian Sea. Once we’ve arrived in Florence we will enjoy a half-day city tour that will feature visits to Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio, Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo and the Academia to see Michelangelo’s “David.” Finally, we check in to our hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 7
Rome
Today we depart Florence for Rome. Along the way we are accompanied by picturesque views of the Italian countryside as we eagerly anticipate our first glimpse of the Eternal City. Upon our arrival in Rome, we will transfer to Saint Paul Outside the Walls, one of the four major basilicas in Rome, where we will visit the tomb of St. Paul before enjoying lunch and some free time to stretch our legs. We then continue our journey with a tour of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, a Salesian Basilica in the center of Rome. We close the day by checking in to our hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 8
Rome
Our day begins with an exploration of Vatican City. We begin with a tour of the magnificent St. Peter’s Basilica. We will then discover the Vatican Museums which house many of the Western world’s most important collections of art. Our experience culminates in a visit to The Sistine Chapel, a place where our minds and hearts will surely linger for many years to come. After lunch, we spend the remainder of the day encountering many of the most famous sites of ancient Rome. Sites such as the Pantheon, Forum, Colosseum and Palatine Hill. Later, we return to our hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 9
Rome
With our final full day of the pilgrimage, we will share in the truly unique experience of attending a Papal Audience. An early morning start ensures the best possible view of the Holy Father as he personally greets and addresses the faithful. In the afternoon, we visit the Basilica of St. John Lateran, the oldest basilica of the Western World. We then visit the Basilica of St. Mary Major, one the most important shrines in the world dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Time permitting, we will proceed to the Catacombs of St. Callixtus. At the close of the day, we will enjoy a farewell dinner at a local restaurant before returning to our hotel for a peaceful night of rest.
