Pilgrimage Overview

Join us on a pilgrimage to Prague, Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg and Munich before we continue to Oberammergau where we will join pilgrims from all over the world travelling to see the Passion Play that only happens once in a decade.

Itinerary

*9 Days are spent in The Holy Land & 5 days are spent in Egypt (excluding travel time)

DAY 1
Depart USA

Today we board our flights to Munich with meals and beverages served aloft.

DAY 2
Arrive Munich

Munich is your launchpad to a journey through the capitals of Imperial Europe, which culminates in the dramatic depiction of Jesus Christ’s life and death in Oberammergau. Start with a city tour of Munich. View the Marienplatz, the center of Munich city life since the 12th century, and its enchanting Glockenspiel before a Welcome Reception.

DAY 3
Munich, Regensburg, Prague

This morning we visit Regensburg, an unspoilt medieval gem on your way to the Czech Republic. After our guided tour of the Regensburg Cathedral, we continue to cross the border to Prague, your home for the next two nights.

DAY 4
Prague

Delve into centuries of history as you join a Local Specialist for a guided sightseeing tour of Prague. View the impressive Gothic architecture of St. Vitus Cathedral in the grounds of the 1,000-year-old Prague Castle, then cross the river on your walking tour to the Old Town Square to see the Astronomical Clock, with its hourly Walk of the Apostles. The afternoon is yours to experience the city on your terms. Savour the delicious chocolate flavours of TrdelnÃk in the old Town Square, pay tribute to the saints that line the Charles Bridge or consider a relaxing lunch cruise on the Vltava.

DAY 5
Prague, Bratislava, Budapest

We leave the beauty of Prague behind for the lush landscapes of Bratislava, with its eclectic Gothic, Baroque and Art Deco architecture. Crossing the border into Hungary, we arrive in Budapest, the Paris of the East. Consider spending the evening on a river cruise along the Danube paired with a dinner of selection of Hungarian specialities and awe-inspiring views.

DAY 6
Budapest

Admire the iconic and unexpected highlights of Budapest on a guided sightseeing tour with a Local Specialist. See the famous Chain Bridge which connects the two ancient settlements that straddle the Danube, and the UNESCO-listed Castle Hill district. Visit Fisherman’s Bastion, paying tribute to the seven Magyar chieftains who founded the Hungarian nation. Here, you can enjoy superb views across the imposing Parliament building and Danube below. Spend the rest of the day at leisure before joining the Schieszl family for a hearty Hungarian Be My Guest dinner. ‘Connect with Locals’ and hear the story of their winery that once sheltered a Jewish friend who was fleeing Nazi persecution.

DAY 7
Budapest – Győr – Vienna

This morning, we enjoy coffee and kurtos in the charming Jewish Quarter before our guided tour of the magnificent Parliament Building. Cross the hilly landscapes of Transdanubia, arriving in GyÅ’r to explore its Baroque architecture and medieval atmosphere before arriving in Vienna for an evening at leisure to indulge in the captivating melodies, art and architecture of a city that was once home to famous composers.

DAY 8
Vienna

Explore the imperial splendour of Vienna at Hofburg Palace, the former winter residence of the Habsburg Dynasty. Admire the grand State Opera House and Ringstrasse, a beautiful sweeping boulevard built in the 19th-century to replace the city walls. Then, see the ornate colourful roof of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, one of the city’s most beloved icons, before spending the afternoon at leisure. We end our day by visiting the Baroque Schönbrunn Palace with its tranquil gardens.

DAY 9
Melk

Early this morning we visit the Melk Abbey, one of the most imposing architectural masterpieces north of the Alps and a focal point in the formative years of Austria’s history. 1989 was the 900th anniversary of the day on which Melk was given over to Benedictine monks. Free time at leisure for your own personal activities.

DAY 10
Vienna, Salzburg

The enchanting landscapes of the UNESCO-designated Wachau Valley provide a picturesque backdrop for our leisurely drive past vineyards and fortresses en route to Salzburg. We stop at the Benedictine Melk Abbey perched on a rocky outcrop above the Danube and learn about its royal connections. Arriving in Salzburg, we embark on a leisurely walking tour of its Old Town with our Local Guide.

DAY 11
Salzburg, Innsbruck

Visit Innsbruck in the Austrian Tirol, renowned for its spectacular scenery. See the Golden Roof and enjoy free time to explore the town.

DAY 12
Oberammergau

Witness first-hand the enduring faith of this Bavarian village and the divine blessings of God that spared Oberammergau and its people from the ravages of the plague which swept Europe in the 17th century. Take your seats for a poignant afternoon spent watching the Passion Play, giving thanks to God for His grace and mercy. We enjoy dinner at a local restaurant this evening before taking your seat for the captivating second half of this performance as night falls.

DAY 13
Munich

This morning we visit the Neuschwanstein Castle, built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, also known as the “Fairytale King”. Continue to Munich for overnight.
