Pilgrimage Overview

Join us on a pilgrimage to London, Belgium and Holland before we continue to Oberammergau where we will join pilgrims from all over the world traveling to see the Passion Play that only happens once in a decade.

Itinerary

Itinerary

DAY 1
Depart USA

Today we board our overnight flight to Munich.

DAY 2
Arrive in Munich

Upon arrival in Munich, we are met by our HLTC representative who will remain with us for the duration of our tour. We immediately start our pilgrimage with a city tour before continuing to our hotel in Neuschwanstein for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3
Oberammergau

After breakfast at your hotel, we visit the fairy-tale castle, in Neuschwanstein built by “Mad” King Ludwig II. With its turrets and mock-medievalism and interior styles ranging from Byzantine through Romanesque to Gothic, the castle is a real fairy-tale fantasy come true. We travel to Wieskirche, a Baroque masterpiece built in the 18th century as a pilgrimage church to the “Scourged Savior in the Wies (meadow)”. Today, the Wieskirche is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to celebrate Mass (subject to confirmation). After lunch on your own we depart for Oberammergau for dinner and overnight.

DAY 4
Oberammergau

After breakfast at your hotel transfer to Ettal Benedictine Abbey for Mass (subject to confirmation) We’ll return to Oberammergau for our passion play.

DAY 5
Oberammergau, Heidelberg

After breakfast at your hotel depart Oberammergau and continue our pilgrimage to Andech Monastery. Enjoy a guided tour of Andech Monastery which has been a center of pilgrimages from the 13th century, known also as the Holy Mountain. Mass at the Monastery (subject to confirmation). We leave Andech’s and travel to Heidelberg. We will stop en-route for lunch on your own and continue to Heidelberg for dinner and overnight.

DAY 6
Heidelberg, Rothenburg ob der Tauber

After breakfast at your hotel, enjoy a guided tour of Heidelberg to include Haupstrasse, Market place, Church of the Holy Spirit, Students jail, Heidelberg castle. Mass at Local Church (subject to confirmation) After lunch on your own continue to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Take a guided tour through this picturesque town straight from the Middle Ages, preserved with dedication and skill. Rothenburg has withstood the ravages of time and war and gives us a unique glimpse into the past. Its city walls, its lovely wood-framed houses, its town square with the famous St. James Cathedral famous for its wooden altar representing the last supper. Return to Heidelberg for dinner and overnight.

DAY 7
Heidelberg, Cologne

After breakfast at your hotel we depart Heidelberg and continue our pilgrimage for a visit to Schoenstatt Pilgrimage Shrine dedicated to the Blessed Virgin where we will celebrate Mass (subject to confirmation). Next, we continue to Rhine and start with a boat ride on the Rhine River from Rudesheim to Koblenz enjoying the scenery along the Rhine River. (subject to weather conditions) Continue to Cologne.

DAY 8
Cologne, Aachen

After breakfast at your hotel depart for Aachen. Tour of Aachen Cathedral and the Gothic Marian Shrine which houses the swaddling clothes of Jesus, the loincloth of the Lord, the cloth for John the Baptist’s head and the Blessed Virgin’s Cloak. Celebrate Mass at the Cathedral and have some free time for meditation and prayer. Return to Cologne for lunch on your own. Afterward, enjoy a guided tour of Cologne’s Cathedral and two of the Romanesque churches that survived World War II. The cathedral was built to house the relics of the Three Magi, and immediately became a major pilgrimage site. Included in your visit is the Cathedral Treasury that contains the staff that belonged to St. Peter. Nearby is the Church of St. Andreas containing the remains of St. Albert the Great, teacher of St. Thomas Aquinas.

DAY 9
Cologne, Banneux, Brussels

After breakfast at your hotel we depart Cologne and continue to Brussels, stopping in Banneux – Notre Dame, also known as, the Belgian Lourdes. Upon arrival, you will visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Banneux. In 1933, the Blessed Mother appeared to twelve-year-old Mariette Boco as the Virgin of the Poor’. We will visit the Chapel adoring the site of the apparition and celebrate Mass at the shrine (subject to confirmation). Continue to Brussels for check-in and overnight.

DAY 10
Brussels

This morning we enjoy a sightseeing tour of Brussels with its diverse architecture. See the Grand Place, the main attraction in the city centre. The square is dominated by the Flamboyant Town Hall, the Neo-Gothic Breadhouse and the Baroque guildhalls of the Guilds of Brussels and the famous Manneken Pis (exterior views only). Continue to Amsterdam for overnight.

DAY 11
Amsterdam

This morning we enjoy a walking tour of Amsterdam, known for its artistic heritage, elaborate canal system and narrow houses. Free time for lunch before we take our canal cruise and enjoy the views as we glide along the city’s UNESCO World Heritage-listed canals.

DAY 12
Amsterdam, London

This morning, we transfer to the railway station to board the EUROSTAR TRAIN to London. We transfer to our hotel. Free evening for our own personal activities.

DAY 13
London

Morning sightseeing with a Local Guide includes all the famous landmarks, The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben beside the River Thames, Westminster Abbey, Whitehall’s mounted horse guards and the Prime Minister’s Downing Street, Piccadilly Circus, and Buckingham Palace. Highlights are a visit to St. Paul’s Cathedral and the ceremonial pageantry of the Changing of the Guard, if held. Time in the afternoon for independent activities.

DAY 14
Depart Germany

Prepare for your departure to the airport and your return flights home with memories for a lifetime.
