Itinerary
DAY 1
Depart USA
Today we depart on our transatlantic flights to Rome. We enjoy in-flight movies and meals aloft.
DAY 2
Arrive Rome
Upon arrival in Rome, we are greeted by our representative and continue to San Paul Outside the Walls for Mass, time permitting. We then transfer to our hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 3
St. Peter's Square
This morning after a very early breakfast we leave to St. Peter’s Square for the Papal Audience. After some free time for lunch, we continue a short tour to two of the major basilicas. We will visit St. Mary Major and St. John Lateran before also visiting the Holy Stairs, or Scala Sancta.
DAY 4
Embark Cruise
This morning we take a walking tour visiting the Trevi Fountain and passing by the Colosseum. We then transfer to the cruise port to embark on our cruise.
DAY 5
Day at Sea
We spend the day onboard our cruise ship enjoying the many amenities and shows it has to offer.
DAY 6
Athens
Today we will be visiting and exploring the city of Athens (Acts 17 16-34). Visit the Acropolis with Parthenon the greatest monument of antiquity, dedicated to the goddess Athena, from here one can see Aeropagus (areios Pagoes = Hill of Area) visited by Pope John Paul II, same hill where St. Paul gave his famous sermon of “Unknown God”.
DAY 7
Mykonos
This mountainous island of Mykonos has about 400 churches and is famous for its picturesque white houses and the island’s trademark, the charming windmills. Mykonos has a unique architecture of Byzantine and Western characteristics. Next, we will visit Our Church of the Virgin Paraportiani, on the main square Cathedral and an old Catholic Church and many boutiques and taverns along tiny, paved streets. Return on board of the ship.
DAY 8
Santorini
After tendering to the port of Athinios, you’ll drive to Pyrgos village, one of the oldest settlements and the highest village on the island. Admire the Venetian fortress crowned by several churches and from the highest point of the island the views out over the caldera are majestic. Head to the picturesque, Village of Oia for more magnificent views of the caldera. With its cobblestone streets and beautiful old homes perched on the cliffside, you’ll appreciate why the traditional Cycladic architecture is so appealing and a perfect complement to the natural beauty of the area. Here, you’ll have free time to stroll and explore this charming village.
DAY 9
Day at Sea
We spend the day onboard our cruise ship enjoying the many amenities and shows it has to offer.
DAY 10
Valletta
A visit to the three cities – Senglea, Cospicua & Vittoriosa and a short ride aboard a typical Maltese boat is a great way to learn about Malta’s extraordinary past and enjoy its colorful ports. Walk around Senglea, a fortified city in the Grand Harbour for a view of the historic bastions. Drive through Cospicua on your way to Vittoriosa. Its honorific name of Vittoriosa was granted as a result of its victorious stand in the Great Siege of 1565. Walk along the narrow streets of this city, admiring such historic sites as the Church of St. Lawrence and Fort St. Angelo, from the outside.
DAY 11
Messina
This morning after departing from the pier we will take a short panoramic tour of Messina taking time to visit the glorious Cathedral of Messina. We will then continue along the coast to the South where we will approach Taormina, an ancient city that rises almost perpendicularly from the sea. It’s a beautiful setting with an alluring medieval character. After visiting the Arabian-influence Palazzo Corvaja and the ruins of a 2nd-century Greeks Theatre we will enjoy free time to wander the beautiful streets.
DAY 12
Naples
Enjoy a very scenic and relaxing excursion, experiencing Italy’s coastline by motor coach and spending time in the beautiful villages of Sorrento and Amalfi. You’ll be driven along a coastal road, winding along breathtaking curves, before arriving in Sorrento perched high above the Bay of Naples. Once you’ve been given a brief orientation of the city and your meeting point and time, enjoy some free time to explore the flower filled main street and the Corso Italia or admire the high-quality handicrafts for which Sorrento is famous. Stop for lunch in Sorrento before you board your motor coach for a drive along the coastline to Amalfi. You’ll see spectacular views of sparkling blue sea, citrus orchards, olive groves and fishing villages nestled in secluded bays en route to one of the most picturesque villages on the Amalfi Coast. Here you’ll also have time to explore on your own. If time permits, you’ll visit a cameo factory nearby to see how the famous jewelry is made and then have some time to browse the store before returning to your ship.
DAY 13
Florence
This morning we discover the wonders of Florence, ‘City of Art.’ We explore the wonderful Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore (Duomo), the Baptistry, Piazza della Signoria, and Santa Croce, housing Michelangelo’s tomb.
DAY 14
Disembark Cruise
Today we disembark in rome and visit St. Peter’s Basilica before a free afternoon to explore Rome on our own and last-minute souvenir shopping.
