Pilgrimage Overview
Join Fr. Juan Mendez and Fr. Nathan Libaire on a pilgrimage to the Mexico City & Guadalajara!
DAY 1
Depart USA
Today we board our flight to Mexico City. Upon arrival, we transfer to our hotel in Mexico City for dinner and overnight.
DAY 2
Ocotlan
We depart Mexico City to head to Puebla. En Route we stop in the nearby town of Ocotlan for Mass at the Shrine of Our Lady of Ocotlan, site where Our Lady burnt her image in an oak tree. Time for a visit to the beautiful Church of San Francisco nearby. Upon arrival in Puebla, we take a short tour to view the Rosary Chapel and other points of interest. Lunch is at a local restaurant.
DAY 3
Mexico City
This morning, we stop to visit the Plaza of the 3 Cultures (Tlaltelolco) to see the Church of St. James where San Juan Diego was baptized. Here we celebrate Mass. Afterwards, a delightful gondola ride along the flower laden canals of Xochimilco – the floating gardens of Mexico. A box lunch will be provided on board the bus enroute to Xochimilco. We then return to our hotel for overnight.
DAY 4
Mexico City
After breakfast, we will make our way to visit Our Lady of Guadalupe with time for prayer and reflection. It is the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and so we will join in the festivities and celebrate this beautiful Feast with tens of thousands of other faithful Catholics, joining the main Mass at noon. We then continue to the famous main plaza of Mexico City, the Zócalo formally named the Plaza de la Constitución. We will visit the Metropolitan Cathedral and see the tomb of Bishop Zumarraga, the first Bishop of Mexico, known as the Protector of Indians. Finally returning to our hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 5
Guanajuato
This morning we depart to the City of Guanajuato. En route out of the city, Mass will be celebrated at the Sanctuary/Basilica of Our Lady of the Remedies, with its large and interesting collection of “Milagros” and “retablos” from people grateful for favors received from Our Lady of the Remedies. Continue to Queretaro (about 2 hours) for a brief city tour of the historic center, seat of Mexico´s Independence from Spain. On to the picturesque town of San Miguel Allende with its spectacular mountain scenery. After lunch in town, depart for Guanajuato for overnight.
DAY 6
Guadalajara
Mass this morning will be at the Church of San Cayetano followed by city tour of the most popular sights in Guanajuato – the University, Teatro Juarez, the local market, the underground streets and the quaintness of this colonial city. Depart for Guadalajara, passing by San Juan de los Lagos, famous for its fascinating Shrine. Stop for a visit to the Shrine and continue to Guadalajara.
DAY 7
Guadalajara
This morning, we walk to Mass at the Cathedral, continuing along the Plaza Tapatio touristic area of Guadalajara. Other visits include the Libertad Market and Teatro Degollado. Then head for the suburb of Tlaquepaque for lunch on your own and time for shopping for local arts & crafts for which this town is famous. Farewell dinner at the hotel.
DAY 8
Return Home
Today we board our flight home, carrying with us memories and keepsakes that will last a lifetime.
