Itinerary

DAY 1
Depart USA

Today we board our flights with meals and beverages served aloft.

DAY 2
Arrive Lisbon

Upon arrival in Lisbon, we are met by our Holy Land Travel Center representative and continue with an introduction of Lisbon. We immediately head to Santarem, one of the oldest cities in the world. We will walk through its narrow streets to the Church of St. Stephen, containing the oldest recorded Eucharistic miracle. This miracle has been on continuous display since 1269 A.D. Later we will continue to Fatima for dinner and overnight. We attend the Candlelight Procession this evening. Overnight: Fatima (D)

DAY 3
Bethlehem

Six times, from May 13 to Oct 13, 1917, the Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherd children in the diocese of Leiria. A new church has been constructed, however just as beautiful, an older church was constructed here in 1928, and millions of pilgrims visit each year. Fatima is one of the most visited holy places for Catholics from around the world. The atmosphere of intense spirituality and the importance of Fatima have been attested to by the visits of two Popes: Paul VI and John Paul II. In Fatima, see the Little Chapel of the Apparitions, Basilica, and the site of Francesco & Jacinta’s graves, the Hamlet of Aljustrel, where the children lived, and Valinhos, the site of Our Lady’s appearance after the children’s return from prison. Follow the Stations of the Cross along the Via Sacra (The Sacred Way) culminating in the Chapel of Calvary, which overlooks all of Fatima. Overnight: Fatima (B, D)

DAY 4
Drive to Santiago De Compostela

After breakfast and Holy Mass, we depart Fatima and drive to Coimbra to visit the Carmelite Convent where Sr. Lucia used to live. We then drive towards Porto to see the wine factory and enjoy taste sampling of the best wine, and see the church of St. Francis. Continue to Santiago de Compostela. Overnight: Santiago de Compostela (B, D)

DAY 5
Santiago De Compostela

We begin with a guided visit to the Cathedral of St. James, one of the finest examples of architecture in all of Europe. As pilgrims, we have the opportunity to climb the stairs behind the high altar to visit the crypt where the relics of St. James are preserved, touch the central pillar (Portico de La Gloria), view the ‘botafumeiro’ and admire the wealth of medieval art inside the Cathedral, before visiting the cloister museum. Enjoy a stroll on own, through the beautiful streets of Santiago de Compostela, the city of the apostle, full of historical buildings and others. Dinner and overnight in Santiago de Compostela, the city of the apostle, full of historical buildings and others. Optional Afternoon Walking Tour ~ this afternoon we set out to join the walking pilgrims at the Monte del Gozo from which the spires of the Cathedral are first visible. One-way transportation with our bus and we will return on foot. We will walk a small portion of El Camino arriving at the Cathedral, the destination we have been yearning to reach. Continue to the Cloister Museum with our group. Overnight: Santiago de Compostela (B, D)

DAY 6
Santiago De Compostela

This morning we depart Santiago de Compostela and drive along the spectacular coast of Spain to Garabandal. Little has changed in this rural town since June 18, 1961 when four children had an apparition first of an Angel sent to visited them, speaking, guiding and confiding secrets of future events. The children reported a promised future miracle at the grove of pine trees on a bluff overlooking the village of Garabandal. It will be on the feast-day of a little-known martyr of the Eucharist and coincide with an event in the Church. During your stay you will have time for reflection, devotions and follow the Stations of the Cross. Speak with villagers who witnessed the apparitions, attend Mass and bask in the tranquility. We will spend the night in Torrelavega. Overnight: Torrelavega (B, D)

DAY 7
Torrelavega

Departure toward the Shrine of Loyola, for devotions at the Shrine and Mass. This afternoon we continue through the scenic countryside of Cantabria and enjoy the lush green mountains before we arrive in Lourdes. Overnight: Lourdes (B, D)

Later we take our official group photo in front of the Basilica, followed by our guided tour of Lourdes: The sanctuary of the Basilica of St. Pius X, the world’s largest underground church. The Basilica, The Baths, where thousands of miraculous cures have taken place is the most respected shrine and sanctuary in France. Also to be visited are sites associated with the life of Saint Bernadette, like the Boly Mill – where she was born; the Locale Mill – residence of her parents; the Cachot – formerly used as a jail where she lived at the time of the Apparitions; the Chapel where she received her first Holy Communion; and the Parish Church – which contains the baptismal font where she was baptized. This afternoon we will join the Blessed Sacrament Procession and Blessing of the sick, (if available on that day). Overnight: Lourdes (B, D)
