ARRIVAL, PIZZA PARTY, MONUMENTS AT NIGHT: Our adventure begins today as we depart our flights from Omaha to Washington D.C.! Upon arrival, we will be greeted by our tour representative and motorcoach. They will take us directly to our hotel for check-in and a welcome dinner. After dinner, we will enjoy an enchanting, guided tour viewing our nation’s monuments illuminated at night! After the tour, we will return to our hotel for an evening of rest and relaxation. [dinner]
Prayer Walk In National Mall, Mount Vernon
After breakfast, we will be transported from the hotel to the National Mall. There we will see the monuments again, but up close and in the light of day. Our group will meet at a pre-determined spot, walking as we pray for past leaders, service members from our nation’s conflicts, present leadership, as well as our country. Once concluded, individuals will have time to experience more of what they wish to see at their own pace and leisure in this 146-acre park. There are monuments to Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, MLK Jr., WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, and so much more! After lunch, our motor coach will pick us all up for the drive across the Potomac River and south to the beautiful, historic grounds of Mount Vernon, home of our first president George Washington. There we will tour the mansion, Washington’s Tomb, gardens, outbuildings, as well as interacting with the many costumed interpreters strolling the grounds! Following the tour, we will return to our hotel.
After our Sunday breakfast at the hotel, Pastor Mark will lead us in a short devotional/worship service. We will enjoy free time to rest or head out to explore any of the other number of sites our nation’s capital offers. After lunch, we will be transported to the historic Ford’s Theater. We will tour this site of one of our nation’s saddest chapters, taking in the amazing legacy of President Abraham Lincoln. The group will then have free time to explore the city or relax at the hotel before dinner. [breakfast]
Museum of the Bible, Washington National Cathedral
Immediately after breakfast, we will head to one of
D.C.’s newest museums, the Museum of The Bible! Chief Curatorial Officer Jeffrey Kloha is a friend of Pastor Mark’s and will welcome us before we begin our exploration of the amazing exhibits and artifacts housed in the 430,000 square foot facility. We will enjoy lunch at one of two available restaurants in the museum (Milk+ Honey Café and Manna) before we are picked up and transported back to our hotel for free time. Mid-afternoon, we will be driven to Washington National Cathedral. There we will experience a tour of this majestic and historical place of worship. At 5:30pm we will take our seats in the sanctuary for the Weekday Choral Evensong. Music from the Renaissance to the modern day will be sung between familiar passages of scripture and prayers. This moving service lasts less than an hour, after which we will be transported back to our hotel.
U.S. Capital, White House
On our last full day, we will head the People’s House, aka White House for a tour of this presidential residence. After this tour concludes we’ll have time for lunch before walking down Pennsylvania Avenue towards the U.S. Capitol for a tour including the Rotunda, Crypt, and National Statuary Hall (and potentially an audience with our representative, General Don Bacon.) Along this route you will be able to see monuments to Presidents Garfield and Grant, the Peace Monument, National Archives, U.S. Navy Memorial Plaza, Pershing Park, and more! At some point during this day, we will reconvene as a group at a pre-selected spot to pray for our nation and its leaders. Following our tours, our motorcoach will pick us up for return to our hotel for some rest before transporting us to our final, farewell dinner at a local restaurant.
[breakfast & dinner]
After an early breakfast at the hotel, we will board our bus for transport to the airport for our flights home, filled with incredible memories of our time together, sharing fun and fellowship in our storied capital city. [breakfast]
