After breakfast we take our private boat to San Marc’s Square and explore Venice, nicknamed “La Serenissima”. We begin with a guided walking tour of St. Mark’s Square, one of the largest open spaces in Venice. We visit two of its landmark buildings, the Basilica of San Marco and the Bridge of Sighs. After breakfast we visit the beautiful church of St Anthony of Padua. This basilica is run by the friars of the Franciscan order to which St Anthony belonged. To many people around the world St Anthony is well known as the doctor of the church, patron saint of finding things or lost people and the patron saint of Padua. We tour the church and view the body of St Anthony. The Chapel of the Saint is the most beautiful and spiritual center of the basilica, which houses the Altar and Tomb of St. Anthony. Today’s excursion we visit the ancient site of Salona, the most important excavation site from Roman time in Croatia and discover the charm and architectural treasures of medieval Trogir – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Solin, at the ancient site of Salona it will seem as though time has stood still. Salona is the most important excavation site from Roman times in Croatia. After your tour, enjoy a scenic drive along the beautiful “Riviera of the Seven Castles” to medieval Trogir. Trogir boasts architectural treasures of beautiful stone houses, palaces, churches, monasteries, towers and walls. The entire town is like an open-air museum, so just strolling through its narrow streets is an unforgettable experience. You’ll visit the main attraction in Trogir, the Cathedral of St. Lawrence which is probably the finest example of Sacral architecture in Croatia. The unusual construction with three naves and three apses dominates the entire town. The main portal carved by local artist, Radovan, in the 13th century is world famous. Visit several of Old Town’s most iconic sites, which gained even greater fame after serving as locations for the fictional capital King’s Landing in “Game of Thrones.” Later, we will enjoy free time within Old Towne, where you may explore other sites that you may recognize from the series. For instance, the Jesuit Staircase was where Cersei Lannister began her Walk of Shame in Season Five, and many of the show’s market scenes were filmed along St. Dominic Street. Visit the cathedral of St. Nikola, a beautiful example of Venetian-Romanesque style. The two small islands in front of Perast offer an impressive view, each of them with a picturesque chapel. Sail to one of these islands and visit the Church of Our Lady of the Rock and learn of its legend. Most of the present-day church was erected after the great earthquake of 1667 when the original sanctuary was destroyed. You’ll find a collection of paintings and a beautifully embroidered tapestry made by a local lady, among its treasures. Experience Corfu’s most enchanting landmarks, colorful villages and breathtaking views of the island on this delightful tour. After an approximate 30-minute drive, you’ll first stop at the beautiful spot of Paleokastritsa that offers splendid views of the area’s multiple bays. It is said that Odysseus met Nausica after he washed ashore at one of the bays. Here you’ll visit the Monastery of the Virgin and its small museum. Your tour will continue towards the village of Lakones where you can look down on the Paleokastritsa and take memorable pictures. We head to the Old Town of Corfu, you’ll have a chance to admire from the comfort of your motor coach, the architecture of the beautiful mansions, the Byzantine churches, the old fortress, the Palaces of St. Michael and St. George and the lively Esplanade Square, before your return to the pier. This morning after departing from the pier we will take a short panoramic tour of Messina taking time to visit the glorious Cathedral of Messina. We will then continue along the coast to the South where we will approach Taormina, an ancient city that rises almost perpendicularly from the sea. It’s a beautiful setting with an alluring medieval character. Enjoy a very scenic and relaxing excursion, experiencing Italy’s coastline by motor coach and spending time in the beautiful villages of Sorrento and Amalfi. You’ll be driven along a coastal road, winding along breathtaking curves, before arriving in Sorrento perched high above the Bay of Naples. Once you’ve been given a brief orientation of the city and your meeting point and time, enjoy some free time to explore the flower filled main street and the Corso Italia or admire the high-quality handicrafts for which Sorrento is famous. Stop for lunch in Sorrento before you board your motor coach for a drive along the coastline to Amalfi. You’ll see spectacular views of sparkling blue sea, citrus orchards, olive groves and fishing villages nestled in secluded bays en route to one of the most picturesque villages on the Amalfi Coast. Here you’ll also have time to explore on your own. If time permits, you’ll visit a cameo factory nearby to see how the famous jewelry is made and then have some time to browse the store before returning to your ship. This morning we discover the wonders of Florence, ‘City of Art.’ We visit the Academy of Fine Arts to view Renaissance masterpieces, including Michelangelo’s ‘David.’ We explore the wonderful Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore (Duomo), the Baptistry, Piazza della Signoria, and Santa Croce, housing Michelangelo’s tomb. On your visit to Marseille, you’ll see the entrance of the old port guarded by the two fortresses Saint John and Saint Nicolas. Drive to the Basilica Notre Dame de la Garde for a very interesting visit where you’ll discover the city of Marseille. In Avignon, city of art and culture, the metropolis of the Vaucluse region which spreads along the banks of the Rhone River, see the famous Pont d’Avignon with only four of its arches remaining. Avignon was a small but prosperous town when its destiny changed in the early 14th century with the exile of the Popes to France, leading to a century of brilliance. It is surrounded by ramparts and dominated by the Doms Rock which is crowned by the magnificent Cathedral and Palace of the Popes. Enjoy some free time for lunch and shopping on your own. This morning we disembark our cruise and we head to the most famous Holy family church, La Sagrada Familia. La Sagrada Familia is an unfinished Catholic basilica in Barcelona designed by the celebrated Art Nouveau architect Antoni Gaudi. We enjoy a full guided tour of the Basilica before we celebrate Mass. We will then journey towards the Temple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for a tour before we continue to our hotel for dinner and overnight. Overnight Barcelona (B)
After breakfast we continue to Montserrat, home to the Benedictine monastery dramatically set in the Montserrat mountain range. Pilgrims from around the world flock to this monastery to view its magnificent architecture in such a striking setting. This shrine has attracted pilgrims for over 700 years, much as it did Ignatius of Loyola in March of 1522. We pause here to visit the Black Madonna of Montserrat, probably Spain’s most fervent devotion to the Blessed Mother. We will spend the afternoon in Park Guell before we continue to our hotel for dinner and overnight. Overnight Barcelona (B)
